Buying at Gerrards


Buyers' Premium is currently 18% of the hammer price plus VAT at the current rate on the 18%.

So, for example if you won an auction item for £100, the actual amount due would be £100.00 + (£18.00 + VAT).

Please note, that bidding online will incur a surcharge of 3% plus VAT. This will be collected by Gerrards on behalf of the Antiques Trade Gazette.

If an item is not collected by the buyer within 5 working days of the sale, Gerrards hold no liability for the items condition to differ from stated at the time of purchase.

Gerrards are more than willing to accept commission bids or telephone bids. Such bids do not incur any surcharge.

If you bid online via The Saleroom (Antiques Trade Gazette), the following will apply:

In completing the bidder registration on www.the-saleroom.com and providing your credit or debit card details and unless alternative arrangements are agreed with Gerrards you

i) authorise Gerrards, if they so wish, to charge the credit or debit card given in part or full payment, including all fees, for items successfully purchased in the sale via the-saleroom.com and

ii) confirm that you are authorised to provide these credit or debit card details to Gerrards through www.the-saleroom.com and agree that Gerrards are entitled to ship the goods to the card holder name and card holder address provided in fulfilment of the sale.

On special items, mostly high value lots, the above premium may be negotiable prior to the sale at the proprietors discretion.

We are able to provide a Post and Packing service at reasonable cost. All items are sent insured, either by Royal Mail Special Delivery (for UK Clients) or by Royal Mail Signed for service for overseas Clients.

In preparing the descriptions of Lots, was have to rely on information provided to us by or on behalf of the Seller. In view of the large number of Lots offered for sale by us, we undertake no obligation to investigate or carry out any tests in sufficient depth on each Lot to establish the accuracy or otherwise of the descriptions contained in the Catalogue, and Bidders should place no reliance on any supposition that such investigations or tests have occurred. Accordingly we will not be liable for any error or misstatement in or omission from the description of a Lot.

Bidders must satisfy themselves as to each & every aspect of the Lot, including its authorship, attribution, condition, provenance, authenticity, age, suitability and origin. Lots are sold on an 'As Is' basis but the actual condition of the Lot may not be as good as indicated by its outward appearance. In particular parts may have been replaced or renewed and Lots may not be authentic or of satisfactory quality. No representation or warranty is given by us or the Seller as to the condition, fitness for purpose or satisfactory quality of any Lot. Any statement to that effect is merely an expression of the opinion of the Seller or us and should not be relied upon by the Bidder as an inducement to bid for a lot.
